Frequently Asked Questions
Rug & Roll is a hands-on workshop that teaches participants the art of rug tufting in a fun, supportive and engaging environment.
Rug tufting is the technique of hand-making rugs by threading loops of yarn in a design onto supportive fabric, usually with the aid of a “tufting gun.”
It comes from the word, “tuft,” meaning to apply a collection of fibers to a base.
The basics of rug tufting have been practiced around the globe for much of history. Most of that time, rug making was done by hand with a hook or, eventually, a rug-manufacturing machine. This new rug tufting trend took off with the use of the tufting gun invented in the early 2000s, because the gun is fast, easy, and offers convenient pile features.

If you need help choosing a design hashtag #tuftedrugs on Instagram or Pinterest. You can also google clip art images! We allow basic beginner level designs with up to four colors. If your design has more than four colors we have a used yarn bin with additional colors you are welcome to use! Your image must be received within 24 hours prior to the workshop start time. If not received you may be required to reschedule your session (rescheduling fee may apply).
Yes, after tufting your rug you will apply glue to bind the yarn and a non-slip rug backing! The glue takes 24 hours to fully dry. You can cut your rug into its shape during the workshop or at home after it dries. Either way you get to leave with your rug after just one tufting session!
