Finish your masterpiece! Grab a glove and spread carpet adhesive on the back of your rug to bond it.


4. CUT & TRIM

Cut your  rug to your desired shape , then trim it with our carpet shears.

We’re a hands-on workshop that teaches the art of rug tufting in a fun, supportive, and engaging environment. Whether you’re looking to try something new or tap into your creative side, we’ve got you covered!

We currently offer two types of workshops:

🧶 3-Hour Beginner Workshop – Learn the full process and leave with a custom rug you made from scratch!

🧶 1.5-Hour Mini Workshop – A shorter session perfect for trying out tufting or creating smaller designs.

Rug tufting is a technique for hand-making rugs by threading loops of yarn into fabric to create a design. This is typically done with the help of a tool called a tufting gun, which speeds up the process and makes it easier for beginners and pros alike.

The word “tuft” refers to a cluster or collection of fibers attached to a base — and that’s exactly what you’re creating with each pass of the tufting gun.

While tufting in its modern form has grown popular on social media, the basics of rug-making have been practiced around the world for centuries. For much of history, rug-making was a slow, handmade craft passed down through generations — and now you get to try it for yourself in a fun, creative setting!

No drawing skills? No problem!

For our 3-hour beginner workshops, we’ll have your design outlined and ready for you to tuft when you arrive. Just email us the image you’d like to use after booking — we’ll take care of the rest!

Our 1.5-hour mini workshops do not include a pre-drawn outline, so bring your creativity and get ready to sketch your own shape or design on the day of the workshop!

The cost of our workshops varies based on the type of session you choose. We strive to keep our workshops accessible and affordable for everyone, offering a range of pricing options to fit different budgets.

Whether you’re looking for a full experience or a quick creative session, there’s something for you at Rug & Roll!

Workshop Duration

The length of each Rug & Roll workshop depends on the type of session you choose:

🧶 Beginner Workshop – 3 hours

🧶 Mini Workshop – 1.5 hours

Time flies when you’re tufting, so please be sure to arrive on time to make the most of your experience!

You can find great ideas on Instagram, Pinterest, or Google — or feel free to draw your own! Once you’ve booked your workshop, simply email us the image you’d like to use — it can be anything from a cartoon character to a logo or simple shape. We recommend choosing something bold, clear, and not too detailed, especially if it’s your first time tufting!

If you’re attending a 3-hour beginner workshop, we’ll have your design outlined and ready when you arrive.

If you’re joining a mini workshop, you’ll sketch your own design on the day — so pick something fun and simple you feel confident drawing!

Our 1.5-hour mini workshops do not include a pre-drawn outline, so bring your creativity and get ready to sketch your own shape or design on the day of the workshop!nal colors you are welcome to use! 


Your image must be received within 24 hours prior to the workshop start time. If not received we will have a blank canvas for you to sketch your own image when you arrive.

Yes! After tufting your rug, you’ll apply glue to secure the yarn and attach a non-slip backing. The glue takes about 24 hours to fully dry, but you’ll still get to take your rug home the same day!


You can cut your rug into its final shape during the workshop or wait until it dries at home — the choice is yours!


One session is all it takes to leave with your own custom creation!

Yes! You’re welcome to bring a partner to assist you during your rug-making session for an additional $50.

After booking your workshop, simply click the menu tab and select the “Bring a Partner” option to add them.

Please note: If your partner would like to make their own rug, they’ll need to register separately for their own workstation.

We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and casual clothing that you don’t mind getting a little yarn on. Tufting can get a bit fuzzy!

Looking to book a fun and creative private session? Rug & Roll offers private workshops with day and evening availability — perfect for birthdays, team-building, or just trying something new with your crew!


✨ Private Full Workshop

• 3 hours

• $200 per person

• Groups of 2 or more

• $50 off per person for groups of 6 or more

• Available day and evening (Sunday-Friday)


✨ Private Mini Workshop

• 1.5 hours

• $75 per person

• Groups of 4 or more

• Available during the day or evening

Yes, there is free street parking and a public parking lot directly across the street (cost varies, please read the signs when parking in the lot) 

Return and Refund Policy

All sales are final. Once a workshop or session is booked it is non-refundable. 48 hour notice is required to reschedule. If canceling with less than 48 hour notice (47 hours-11 hours prior to the start of the workshop/session) a rescheduling fee of $15 per person is required prior to rescheduling. If less than 12 hour notice, No-show and/or No-notice on the day of the workshop the total amount is forfeited by the participant. Our workshops start and end on time. We allow a 5 minute grace period for late arrivals. If you arrive late and are unable to finish your rug when the workshop/session ends you may need to book another workshop or session time to finish.  The cost for booking another session is solely the responsibility of the participant and is not covered by the instructor, Rug & Roll or any of its affiliates. Images must be emailed to us after booking. If images are not received within 24 hours prior to the start of the workshop you may be not be able to participate in the workshop and will be asked to reschedule (rescheduling fees apply). To reschedule please email rugandrollrva@gmail.com and put “RESCHEDULE REQUEST”  in the subject line.
